A Message from the President and CEO
Harold Redekopp has informed me that he will be retiring before the end of the calendar year 2004. In the interest of corporate planning and succession, we will soon begin an internal and external search for his replacement.

Harold's departure will be a tremendous loss to the organization. I have come to rely on Harold and will miss his support, his advice and his strong leadership skills. We share the same values and objectives for Public Broadcasting.

Harold continues to make a remarkable contribution to CBC and will actively be "at the helm" in parallel with our search activities in the interest of a smooth succession. It is important to note that Harold retains all his responsibilities, including responsibility for the 2004-05 program schedule and corresponding CBC Television budget. He will also be implicated in both the transition plan for his successor and succession plans for CBC Television.

He will remain in charge until a mutually agreeable date when he will begin to consider his options "post-CBC". For a long time Harold has had an abiding interest in the role of broadcasting in the development of emerging democratic societies. Who better to bring his energy and his wealth of experience to a worthy cause? But that is for the future. For now he has a full agenda and lots of challenges over the coming year.

At the appropriate time we will properly recognize Harold's contribution to CBC Radio and Television during his over 30 years of service.
